Aromatherapy

What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the therapeutic use of essential oils to help conditions of imbalance after a conducted consultation and assessment.

Aromatherapy is an ancient therapy. There are many sources describing the medicinal and therapeutic uses for plants and herbs. In modern day application, essential oils are blended into carrier oils and used as a massage treatment, they are used in baths and can also be heated in an oil burner.

Essential oils are pure essences extracted from plants (I personally only use organic essential oils). The essential oils have their own unique healing properties.

The aromatic essential oils are absorbed into the body via a number of different ways. The essential oils are diluted in a vegetable carrier oil and massaged into the skin. From here the essential oil molecules permeate into the blood stream. They are also inhaled through the nose where they then enter the lungs and are picked up by sensors in the nose where they then affect the part of the brain which influences the nervous and hormonal systems.

Holistic Aromatherapy recognises that the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social aspects of a persons’ being cannot be isolated. A whole-person approach assessment is applied and an individualised treatment plan is put into place.
